If you have hiring authority or influence, I want you to give vets another look. Everyone talks a big game about hiring veterans, but at least in private law it seems like veterans face significant challenges being hired into law firm roles.
Lawyers who are JAG officers seem to struggle to get asked for interviews, even.
One firm once told me that because my veteran attorney had done public service-oriented summer roles, he clearly didn’t have the chops.
Veterans have resilience, adaptability, and tenacity that is above and beyond.
They will go the extra mile to offer you the best and be successful in your organization. They will figure it out, because they’ve always had to.
When you see that resume with military service, do yourself a favor and at least screen them. They will impress you.
Happy Veterans Day, to my fellow vets. Thanks for all you’ve done.
And a special Happy Birthday to my Marine friends!
